Drones for good: Professor Burke flies “Fire Prevention Drone Flight”

Professor Burke provided assistance to the campus fire authorities using his drone.

His flights provided aerial footage of the “Fuel Modification Zone”, a region of reduced vegetation around a residential neighborhood on the UCI campus (University Hills) to prevent risk of fire to homes. This was used to coordinate the fire prevention plan and issues among the following stakeholders: The UCI Emergency Preparedness department; The Homeowners’ Representative Board (HRB); Orange County Fire Authority; UCI Police Department; CERT preparedness personnel; and interested homeowners.

Professor Burke is an FAA licensed drone pilot (part 107).
